Greetings PHG Fans! For those of you interested in the military history of Saipan, check out this talk I gave on WW2TV, regarding the fight for the island in June 1944. I offered my perspective from that of the Japanese defenders on Saipan, specifically the 43rd Infantry Division under Lt. Gen. Saito Yoshitsugu. Having lived in the Marianas, and visited quite a few battlefields and historic sites throughout the islands, I was more than excited to examine the Battle of Saipan for the awesome folks over at WW2TV.

I'd love to have your feedback, let me know what you think in the comments! The photo attached this post is from my family's most recent trip to Saipan, in which we visited more than 20 historical sites and monuments.

A view of the 'banzai cliffs' of Saipan, with the Japanese memorial in the foreground. More than 25,000 Japanese troops were killed in the fighting, and between 8,000 and 10,000 civilians were killed or committed suicide.
