Greetings PHG fans, back again with another talk for WW2TV, this time focused on the battles for Guam in 1941 and 1944. Having been to Guam many times and been stationed there for several years, I had the opportunity to walk many battlefields and explore some of the more obscure monuments and memorials around the island. It was a pleasure to get with Woody and the WW2TV community to discuss the Battles for Guam, and once again I focused on the Japanese side of the battle, specifically the 29th Division under Lt. Gen. Takashina Takeshi.

Guam was under Japanese occupation from 10 December 1941 to 10 August 1944, and thousands of Chamorro people suffered as Japan attempted to turn 'Omiya-Jima' into a colony akin to Saipan or Palau.During our time living on Guam, we were just down the road from the final battlefield in Yigo, where the South Pacific Memorial Peace Park now stands. Near here, General Obata Hideyoshi killed himself, shortly after organized resistance in the battle ended. We also often visited the historical sites on Naval Base Guam, and during one of those times I snapped this photo of the War Dog Memorial; in my opinion the best maintained monument on Guam.
