Sydney Opera House, Sydney, NSW, Australia
Sydney Opera House, Sydney, NSW, Australia

New South Wales is situated in the southeast of Australia, the most populous state in the country. It is bordered by Queensland to the north, South Australia to the west, and Victoria to the south. The State borders the South Pacific Ocean to the east and along with Victoria and Tasmania, is the closest Australian region to New Zealand. The Australia Capital Territory lies within the borders of New South Wales.

Sydney is the state capital capital and the largest city in the state and country. Other sizable cities include Newcastle and Illawarra.  Sydney is a popular port call for U.S. Navy ships, and the opera house here is a world-famous landmark.
